Mortar and Pestle 4.5x6x5.25. 1.75x9x1.75.Drug Compounding:Mortar and pestle.Large brass mortar and pestle. Brass mortar and pestles were used up until the Eighteenth in the compounding of medications until it was found that the containers produced tiny flakes of metal in the prescriptions. The brass was replaced by wedgwood mortars and wooden pestles.

These colorful tins were used to advertise the drug manufacturers of the time."
