The Joseph A. Towles Collection was donated by anthropologist Colin Turnbull, who studied extensively in the Ituri forest of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire). In addition to African artifacts, this collection also contains objects from Turnbull's and Towles' trips to China and India.
